How do I take steroids?

You should always take medication as prescribed by the person treating you. Anticonvulsants are medicines used to prevent seizures (fits). Steroid injections are often only given at intervals of at least 6 weeks. A maximum of 3 injections into one area is usually recommended.

You may notice more side effects if you need to take high doses of your inhaler for a long time. If you have COPD, high doses in your inhaler over a long-term can mean an increased risk of pneumonia. Those already receiving maintenance steroid tablets should receive 2mg/kg prednisolone up to a maximum dose of 60mg (6ml). Treatment for up to three days is usually sufficient, but the length of course should be tailored to the number of days necessary to bring about recovery.
